THE VIDEO GAMERS LEAGUE (VGL) founded by Jeff Gross in 1999 is the first gaming league for console players. The first VGL event was held November 20-21, 1999 and featured tournaments for Playstation, Nintendo 64 and Dreamcast. Games included Goldeneye, Super Smash Brothers, NFL 2k, NFL Blitz and Tekken 3. Since its inception, VGL has executed over 100 tournaments across the United States. Major tournaments include: CPL AND VGL ANNOUNCE ALLIANCE Video Gamers League (VGL), the first gaming league for console players, has partnered with the Cyberathlete Professional League (CPL) the world's first PC game sports league. Under the alliance, VGL will hold console tournaments at CPL events. VGL will manage and sanction the contests. >>Press Release >>CPL Website McDONDALD'S MIDNIGHT GAMING CHAMPIONSHIP VGL is partnering with McDonald's to create the Midnight Gaming League. The league is promoting McDonald's new late night hours. The pilot program will consist of eight tournaments in the Dallas/Ft Worth metropolitan area and a championship. Weekly tournaments will run from September 23 through November 11 with a championship on November 18. Games being played are NCAA Football 07, Tekken 5 and Guitar Hero. >>Midnight Gaming Championship Website >>Pictures from MGC Finals BEST BUY ELECTRONIC GAMING CHAMPIONSHIP VGL executed the gaming tournaments for the Best Buy Electronic Gaming Championship. Four official tournaments were offered: Halo (Xbox), Madden 2005 (Playstation 2), Unreal Tournament 2004 (PC) and Tekken 5 (Playstation 2). Tournaments were held in Oceanside, CA, Orange, CA, San Bernardino, CA and Bakersfield, CA. Tournament winners advanced to a championship at the E3 Insider Party. The 4 winners for each game competed against each other to determine the champion. Other activities were offered including the EA Contest Zone, Gaming Demos and Frag Doll challenge to ensure the event appealed to gamers of all skill levels. >>Photo Gallery DFW Games: Dallas/Ft.
